This yarn is handspun Angora fibre and Norwegian sheep fibre. I spun a single of each and plied them together. The Angora is spun with a short forward draft making it a worsted single, the wool was spun with a long draw draft making it a woolen single. As the Angora fibre is very short (see the fourth picture), I wanted to ensure it was spun with enough integrity to last and wear well. Plying it with the woolen spun wool single gives the finished yarn some memory and spenst, 100% Angora yarn is more drapey and has little or no memory.
As you can see the Angora fibre is variegated in color which results in a variegated yarn. The wool fibre was a natural white with no variegation. Plying these together has resulted in unique skeins, no two are alike and your project will reflect this. The yarn has a slight halo from the Angora and this will increase with wear. I find that plying the Angora with wool helps to prevent the Angora from shedding as much as with 100% Angora yarn.
The skeins weigh 50 - 60 grams. As they are handspun the thicknes will vary and therefore the weight will vary. They´re all 200 m of yarn, I prefer to measure my handspun by meter not weight.
In my opinion, this yarn is very nice for accessories, scarves, headbands, hats, fingerless mitts, etc. It would also be very nice for baby clothes, maybe not for the very young due to the halo which may be a challenge.
Personally, I prefer to knit this yarn on a 2.5 mm - 3.5 mm needle, depending on how compact I wand the result to be. It can be compared to any Fingering Weight yarn.
To wash, please use lukewarm water and let the garment soak for about half an hour, rinse and lay flat to dry.
